Happy Women’s History Month!

March is Women’s History Month!

Women have always been part of history, though their contributions were often overlooked, with early texts focusing mainly on powerful men.  Historians, mostly male, adhered to the "great man" theory, emphasizing the role of male heroes.  In the 20th century, the rise of women’s history as a field of study aimed to recognize women's achievements and secure their equal access to academic spaces.  This led to the creation of National Women’s History Month in the U.S., a celebration sparked by historians’ activism to ensure women’s contributions were acknowledged.

This month, I wanted to highlight one of my favorite woman photographers, Sasha Israel.  Her work is bold, beautiful, artistic, and has a point of view.  One of my favorite aspects about her work is the way she celebrates women through her photography.  Through her powerful shots and visual storytelling, she conveys the narratives of so many amazing women.  You can see her beautiful portraits displayed throughout the book In the Company of Women which sheds light on many influential (bad-ass) women and how they embraced their creative spirit, overcame adversity, and pursued entrepreneurship.  She also has a beautiful series called The Pump Project which documents the strength and resilience of mothers pumping at work.  It is so beautiful to see women supporting women and the impact that can have on inspiring others.  As I grow older, I find myself increasingly inspired by the power, strength, resilience, and kindness of women.  To sum it up, women are the best!

Keep shining bright ladies!
